The scene where Thief comments on a picture that is Rao's "good luck charm" made me think that the characters don't need -san or -kun added because it conveyed how close they are despite being human and devils. The colors don't even look like colors and rather something my little sister could do on Photoshop. The premise for Thief's design is pretty funny (A Santa Demon that steals?) I do have a complaint with the cover though.

The art is above average and the tank is well drawn, despite the cartoony look. doesn't take long and a taste of Dragon Ball fights could have been used. The volume ends at 12 chapters, and I feel that one more chapter could have gotten me up to the last chapter. The big flaw that I found is the fact that it was rushed. The story is great for a quick one shot volume, despite the premise of "The goverment tooks our waterz we nao rebel!" Like I just said that's the plot. Personally I think Akira Toriyama isn nothing special but this manga proved me wrong. A few minor differences show that the two characters are not the same, but it's very likely that Beelzebub's father takes some inspiration from Dragon Ball's own King of Demons.Did you finish Dragon Ball and think, "Holy crap Akira Toriyama is freakin' manga God I need more, something better!" Then this is it. RELATED: Best Games For Dragon Ball Fans That Art Not Part Of The FranchiseĮven though Beelzebub's father Satan, or Lucifer as he's called in the Western publications of Sand Land, is only shown on one page, fans of the Dragon Ball series might think that he looks a lot like Dabura from Dragon Ball.

Sand Land seems to take at least a little inspiration from his Pink series, as both worlds suffer from a long-term drought and have main characters who steal water from a corrupt organization. Pink is about a young girl who is a bandit that steals water from an organization called the Silver Company. One of the series that Toriyama created in between two of his most popular series, Dr.Slump and Dragon Ball was Pink. He had established himself as a talented and popular manga artist well before Sand Land was created in 2000. Sand Land is far from being one of Toriyama's first works.
